Hommage Issue Seven represented yet another seismic shift in the attitude of the publication in relation to the realities of addressing the market. Jesse's Letter from the Editor expounds quite a bit on that change, though there was much left unsaid regarding pricing strategy. This issue is the first to feature a Special Edition. The Special Edition is built around two silver gelatin darkroom prints; one that functions as a slipcover, and a second contact print of the centerfold image. By focusing on the print as the core object being sold, with the magazine included with a purchase, the strategy was (and is) to begin to allow the reader to understand the value of the object and, in so doing, to charge a price commiserate with what is required for the publication to be able to continue operation.
Additionally, the Special Edition was aimed at allowing the publication to create enough margin to be able to sit in retail stores comfortably, delivering value for Hommage at a wholesale price and the retailer at retail. Hommage Issue Seven is available here.
