Deconstructing the Magazine, a curatorial collaboration between Jesse Jackson IV and James Talambas, attempted to bridge the gap between the analog nature of Hommage Magazine and the new media focus key to both James' artistic practice and his gallery, New Media Contemporary.
Deconstructing the Magazine took work by artists featured in Hommage issues 1-3 and translated it to be displayed within a new context.
The physical magazine was literally deconstructed, with each page hung on the wall and individual images lit via a projection mapping created by @et_3d. We created digital slides of images the artists submitted and projected them through Kodak Carousel slide projectors, continuing the conversation between analog and new media. Finally, we featured video works created by artists who had been featured in past issues.
The show was on view from Friday, February 7th 2025 through Friday, March 7th 2025.
